Arbroath: The date for this year’s Steven Donaldson memorial motorcycle ride has been set. It’s a special event that brings bikers from all over Scotland to honor a beloved local man.
Steven was tragically murdered in 2018 at just 27 years old. Last year, around 500 motorcycles showed up for the ride, and it’s expected to be just as big this time.
The ride will start in Steven’s hometown and end at Kinnordy Loch, a beautiful nature reserve near Kirriemuir. This spot holds a lot of meaning for Steven’s family and friends.
Organiser Billy Connell shared that this year’s ride is planned for Saturday, July 19, which is close to Steven’s birthday on July 23. They’re excited because it won’t clash with the Rewind festival, which is taking a break this summer.
The route will take bikers through Arbroath, Forfar, and Kirriemuir, with a special tribute at the oak tree planted in Steven’s memory at Kinnordy RSPB nature reserve.
Last year, the police were really helpful, and Billy expects another great turnout this time around. It’s a heartfelt event, and Steven’s family has always supported it.
They find comfort in seeing so many bikers come out to honor Steven. It’s not just the motorcyclists; there are hundreds of people lining the roads to pay their respects.
This year is particularly emotional for the family, as it falls just after Steven’s former girlfriend was released from prison for her role in his death. His dad, Bill, expressed gratitude for the amazing support from the community.
They’ve been actively involved in advocating for victims’ rights, pushing for reforms in the parole system in Scotland. It’s a tough journey, but they feel the love and support from everyone around them.
