Aberdeen: Over the past five years, the A96 has seen a staggering number of accidents. We’re talking about 14 fatal crashes, 89 serious ones, and 76 slight collisions. That’s nearly 180 accidents in total!

This road is a major route in the north and northeast of Scotland, connecting Aberdeen and Inverness. It’s busy, and unfortunately, it comes with its share of dangers.

We’ve done some digging into the data from the Department for Transport, along with our own reporting. This is crucial since there’s often a delay in getting the official numbers.

Our analysis covers the years from 2019 to 2023, focusing on various aspects like the severity of crashes, who was involved, and when these accidents tend to happen.

So, what did we find? Well, the number of accidents on the A96 has actually gone up in 2023 compared to previous years. But here’s a silver lining: the number of fatal crashes has dropped since 2019.

In total, there were 14 fatalities, 119 serious injuries, and 149 slight injuries over the five years. That’s a lot of lives affected, and it’s clear that road safety needs to be a priority.

Interestingly, most accidents happen in the afternoon, particularly between 3 and 4 PM. It seems like that’s when drivers are most likely to be involved in a crash.

Weather conditions also play a role, but surprisingly, most accidents occurred in fine weather. It just goes to show that even on clear days, caution is key.

As we look ahead, there’s a push for better road safety measures. The SNP has plans to dual the A96 by 2030, but there’s still a long way to go. We’ll keep you updated on the latest developments and what they mean for drivers.
