Darlington: Maggie the lurcher was brought to Dogs Trust when she was just a six-month-old pup. Sadly, she’s never known what it’s like to celebrate a birthday or Christmas in a loving home.
Now at four years old, her biggest wish is to find a family this year. Her early days were tough, and she’s spent most of her life in kennels.
Because of this, Maggie can be a bit shy and unsure around new people and situations. But the caring team at Dogs Trust Darlington has been working hard with her to help build her confidence.
They’ve spent quality time with her, even helping her feel more at ease during vet visits. Maggie has made great progress, and the team is really proud of her.
They’re hopeful that 2025 will finally be the year she finds her forever family. Alex Hennessey, the manager at the rehoming center, describes Maggie as a sweet girl with a loving nature.
He mentions that she’s one of their “Underdogs,” which means she’s been in their care for over six months. While she can be a bit of a worrier, the training team has done wonders with her.
Maggie is affectionate and loves being around people. Once she warms up to you, get ready for lots of snuggles and fun times!
She’s got a friendly and energetic side that shines through once she feels comfortable. Alex believes Maggie would make a fantastic addition to any family, especially since they’ve seen other lurchers thrive when they find their perfect match.
He encourages anyone looking for a loyal companion to consider Maggie. She needs an adult-only home with no visiting kids and a garden where she can show off her speedy zoomies.
Before going home, Maggie will need a few meet-and-greets with her potential owners to build a bond. Lurchers, like Maggie, are a mix of sighthounds and other breeds, so they come in various sizes and colors.
Even though they’re loving dogs, lurchers often spend more time in care than other breeds. They’re known for their graceful frames and deep loyalty.
Right now, Dogs Trust Darlington is also caring for five other lurchers, three of which are also “underdogs.” You can check out Maggie’s video and learn more about her on the Dogs Trust website.
