Dangers of Being Homeless in Southampton Revealed by Woman

Southampton, Carla Taylor, Homelessness, UK
Southampton: Carla Taylor has been homeless for over a year. She lives on the streets and relies on donations from passers-by.
At 48, Carla lost her home after her ex-husband moved on while she was hospitalized with Covid-19 and a heart attack.
After a dispute with the New Forest District Council, she was evicted. Now, she fights to survive each day.
Carla started living in her car, but when her insurance expired, the police towed it away. She then set up a tent outside a shop, where staff were kind to her.
Unfortunately, someone complained, and bailiffs took her tent and belongings. She lost everything except what was in her pockets.
Carla, a former horse trainer, worries about her safety. She prefers to sleep in well-lit areas with CCTV.
Being a woman on the streets is scary. She faced stalking and had to run from a man once.
Drunk teenagers have kicked her tent, upsetting her dog. When she asked them to stop, she was punched in the face.
Some people are kind, helping her find a warm bed when possible. Most days, she tries to raise £25 to £35 for a night’s stay.
Recently, she spent nights outside a supermarket, getting little sleep. She hopes to raise an extra £10 today for a room tonight.
