Dangerous tornado outbreak threatens parts of the U.S. through the weekend

Texas: A dangerous tornado outbreak is brewing, and it’s no joke. The Storm Prediction Center has flagged a moderate risk for severe weather, which means we could see some strong tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds across the southern U.S.

This is all thanks to a powerful mid-level trough and a jet stream that’s stirring things up. Saturday looks like the day to watch, as a cold front and moist air from the Gulf are coming together to create the perfect storm.

So, what’s the deal? Well, warm air from the Gulf of Mexico is pushing north, and storms are expected to kick off in Texas by early afternoon. As the day goes on, we might see some supercells popping up over Louisiana and Mississippi.

These storms could be serious. Some tornadoes might even reach EF3 status or higher, and they could stay on the ground for a while. As the evening rolls in, the storms are likely to merge into a fast-moving line, bringing strong winds and possibly nocturnal tornadoes.

Alabama, Tennessee, and parts of Georgia should be on high alert through the night. Then, on Sunday, the severe weather threat shifts east, affecting the mid-Atlantic and parts of the Ohio Valley.

A deepening low pressure system will bring more thunderstorms along a cold front heading toward the East Coast. Even though the tornado risk drops a bit on Sunday, we could still see some twisters, especially in eastern Georgia and the Carolinas.
