The sisters were triplets, and their third sister, Edit, collapsed upon hearing the news. Miklos shared that the discovery shattered their family. He received a call from his son, who told him they likely found Henrietta. She had a tattoo that helped identify her.
A search began after the sisters’ landlord reported them missing. They had texted him saying they wouldn’t return to their flat. Police had paused the search after three weeks, but bodies were found on January 31.
Authorities stated there were no signs of foul play. Dive teams searched the river throughout January. A police boat was seen patrolling the area after the first body was discovered.
Coastguard teams assisted in the search. Miklos hadn’t spoken to his daughters in 12 years but felt sick when he learned they were missing. He hoped for a misunderstanding but feared the worst.
Relatives are now working to bring the sisters’ remains back to Hungary. A fundraiser started by a friend has raised over £5,000 to support the family.
Tributes and flowers were left near the Aberdeen Boat Club, where the sisters disappeared. Police thanked the public for their help and are in contact with the Huszti family.
Superintendent David Howieson expressed condolences to the family and acknowledged the impact of this tragedy on the community.
