Darlington: A dad is in court after the tragic death of his 14-year-old daughter, Scarlett. He claims they were just play-fighting when the stabbing happened.
Scarlett suffered severe blood loss after a knife went 11cm deep into her chest, hitting her heart. It’s a heartbreaking situation.
Simon Vickers, 50, is accused of murdering Scarlett at their home last July. He told paramedics they were just messing around when things went horribly wrong.
But the prosecutor argues that the injury was too severe to be accidental. They say it had to be a deliberate act, not just a playful moment.
Emergency crews found Scarlett on the kitchen floor, and sadly, she was declared dead shortly after. Vickers had been drinking wine and watching football with Scarlett’s mom before the incident.
He described a chaotic scene where they were throwing things at each other. His wife mentioned she had taken out a knife to cut garlic bread, which adds to the confusion.
Vickers later told police he didn’t mean for it to happen. He said one moment he was cooking, and the next, there was blood everywhere.
During questioning, he seemed unsure about what happened, admitting he must be responsible for Scarlett’s death. He gave several different accounts of the incident.
His defense lawyer called it a tragic accident, emphasizing that Vickers never intended to harm his daughter. The trial is ongoing, and it’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
