Stockport: A new fish and chip shop just opened, and it’s already making waves. Mother Hubbard’s, a beloved name from Yorkshire, has set up shop on Wellington Road North.
People were lining up outside, drawn in by a sweet 50% off deal for the opening day. It’s been a hit with food lovers, no doubt about it.
One customer, Val Boonham, found herself 133rd in line but took to social media to share her excitement. She said it was ‘well worth the wait’ after finally getting her meal.
Val described the scene, saying, “I went in, it was heaving. I got there just after noon, and the fish was so tasty and chunky. I haven’t had fish this good in years!”
The new chippy is located where the old Hope Inn pub used to be in Heaton Norris. It’s a great spot for a meal.
Mother Hubbard’s has a rich history, starting in Bradford over 50 years ago. It was opened by the famous Coronation Street duo, Stan and Hilda Ogden.
They’ve expanded quite a bit since then, with branches popping up all over, including Oldham, Salford, and Bolton. It’s become a go-to for fish and chips, with people often queuing out the door.
At the Stockport location, you can grab classic fish and chips for £8.75 or go for the super jumbo portion at £16.95. There are also pies, chicken nuggets, and even wraps on the menu.
Head chef Chris Farnell mentioned that they offer a wide variety of dishes, making it more than just a typical chippy. Plus, they don’t charge extra for takeaways!
The chippy opens daily at 11am, with last orders at 10:30pm. And if you’re feeling lazy, they deliver through Just Eat and Uber Eats.
