Cumberland Council Unveils Gritted Routes Ahead of Snow Warning
Cumberland Council has announced gritted routes in preparation for an amber weather warning for snow in Cumbria

Cumberland: So, the council just shared their gritting routes because of a snow warning tonight. They’re on it, treating the priority roads first.
But heads up! Some fells like Cold Fell and Hardknott Pass are closed due to icy conditions. Safety first, right?
Tonight, the gritters will mainly focus on west Cumbria, but they’ll also hit some central spots. They’re quick too—primary roads get gritted within 2.5 hours of the decision.
These primary roads are super important since they connect major traffic areas. Secondary roads are also treated fast, serving local traffic needs.
They aim to pre-treat both types of roads before 8 am whenever they can. Together, these roads make up about a third of Cumberland’s road network.
Oh, and part of the network is managed by Connect Roads for the council. They handle the sections marked in orange on the gritting map.
Stay safe out there!
