Croydon: A youth centre is stepping up to help out this winter. The Legacy Youth Zone is planning to dish out free hot meals starting in January 2025. This initiative is all about supporting families who are feeling the pinch with rising living costs.

The centre, located on Whitehorse Road, got some funding from Intermediate Capital Group (ICG) to kick off this service. They also provided free meals last December, which helped around 2,300 young people. That’s pretty impressive!

Legacy Youth Zone is part of a network of youth centres across the UK, offering a safe hangout for kids and teens aged eight to 19, and up to 25 for those with special needs. Membership is super affordable at just £5 a year, and each session only costs 50p.

Normally, a hot meal at the centre goes for £1, giving young folks a chance to enjoy a warm, home-cooked meal while hanging out with friends. Plus, there are loads of activities available, like a gym, music room, and even a boxing gym, all for just 50p a day.

Thanks to the funding from ICG, the centre can now offer free meals to all young people who come by this winter. It’s great to see places like this making a real difference in the community!
