Croydon: So, there’s been a bit of a scandal in Croydon. A shop owner got caught selling vapes to kids, and it didn’t end well for him.
The guy, Lalbaz Safi, runs a place called Mobile and Vape on Brigstock Road. During a test by the council, he was found guilty of selling a vape to a minor.
He showed up at Croydon Magistrates Court and admitted to the charges. They slapped him with a £600 fine for that alone.
But wait, there’s more! He also sold vapes that didn’t meet safety standards. They had too much nicotine, no health warnings, and were missing UK contact info. That cost him another £400.
On top of that, he got hit with a £280 fine for selling hair products that didn’t have proper labels. All in all, he ended up owing nearly £5,000 after everything was added up.
The council’s trading standards team had been keeping an eye on him, and they seized a bunch of non-compliant vapes and hair products during their investigation.
The judge pointed out that selling to minors was the worst part of it all, especially since there were no checks in place to stop underage sales.
Jason Perry, Croydon’s executive mayor, made it clear that they’re serious about keeping the community safe and will keep cracking down on businesses that break the rules.
