PITTSBURGH: So, guess what? Sidney Crosby just made history! He broke Mario Lemieux’s record for career assists with the Penguins during a game against the New York Islanders. The final score? 3-2 for the Penguins.

Crosby now has 1,034 assists, which puts him 12th in NHL history. That’s pretty impressive! Only a few legends like Wayne Gretzky and Ray Bourque have more assists with one team. And keep in mind, Crosby has played over 1,300 games, while Lemieux played 915.

In this game, Evgeni Malkin scored the winning power-play goal in the third period. The Penguins have been on fire lately, scoring 14 power-play goals in their last 13 games. They’ve also won seven of their last eight home games.

Alex Nedeljkovic was in goal and made 29 saves, marking his first start since December. Unfortunately, Kris Letang was out with an injury, but Nathan Clurman made his NHL debut, which is always exciting.

The Islanders tried to make a comeback with two goals from Anders Lee in the third period, but it wasn’t enough. They fell behind 3-0 and just couldn’t catch up.

Looking ahead, both teams are back in action on Tuesday. The Penguins will head to Detroit, while the Islanders will start a home-and-home series against Toronto.
