Redcar: A lollipop lady named Maureen Seaton is taking matters into her own hands. She’s been wearing a bodycam to catch reckless drivers who zoom past while kids are crossing the road.

Maureen, who’s been doing this job for six years, got fed up after a close call with a speeding motorcyclist. So, she bought a £45 camera online and started recording. It’s already helped bring one driver to court!

She loves her job and even works two shifts, helping kids cross the street and cleaning up at Coatham Primary. Maureen says drivers often ignore the 20mph speed limit, and her footage shows just how dangerous it can be.

She got permission from the council to wear the camera, and it’s tiny enough that no one really notices. When a driver sped past her without a care, she reported him to the police, and they used her footage to prosecute him.

That driver ended up with a fine of over £1,000! Maureen feels it’s disrespectful when drivers don’t stop for her, especially with kids around. She just wants everyone to slow down and think about the little ones crossing the road.

The driver was convicted at Teesside Magistrates’ Court for not providing information about who was driving. He got hit with a £660 fine, plus other costs. Local officials stress the importance of respecting crossing patrols and keeping everyone safe.

PC Joshua Hall-Young from Cleveland Police emphasized that safety is a top priority. He reminded everyone that crossing patrols have legal authority, and drivers can face serious consequences for ignoring them.
