Welney: Power crews from King’s Lynn were featured on a BBC show. They appeared on Countryfile, showcasing their work at Welney Wetlands.
The team installed bird diverters on power lines. Presenter Charlotte Smith joined them to see how they work safely.
Using long, insulated rods, they put up fluorescent discs. Linesperson Steve Thurston and his team installed about 100 discs recently.
These installations help protect swans flying in the area. Heather Patrick, an environment adviser, shared insights during the show.
She explained that swan flight paths can change yearly. The location is now safer for over 2,000 Whooper swans that migrate here.
The diverters make power lines more visible to birds. This helps prevent collisions and reduces power cuts for local residents.
