Birmingham: Crazy P’s lead singer, Danielle Moore, tragically took her own life after battling perimenopause and a hectic work schedule, as revealed in an inquest.
The beloved Mancunian music star died after being hit by a train on August 30 last year. She was just 52 years old.
Her family shared a heartfelt statement, honoring Danielle as a person of kindness and spirit. They expressed their ongoing grief and aimed to raise awareness about how perimenopause can affect women’s mental health.
Danielle, originally from Radcliffe, Bury, was set to celebrate her eighth wedding anniversary shortly after her passing. Just hours before, she had been busy with chores and preparing for an upcoming gig.
During the inquest, it was noted that Danielle had faced the challenges of the pandemic, which halted her music career, and the onset of perimenopause. When work resumed, her schedule became overwhelming, leaving her feeling burnt out, as her husband James Ensell shared.
She had a history of mental health issues, including previous suicide attempts. Although she started Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), her busy lifestyle made it hard for her to fully benefit from it.
The coroner concluded her death was a suicide, stating it was a tragic case that deeply affected him. A missing person report was filed when James couldn’t reach her, leading him to discover her home in disarray.
James described Danielle as a remarkable woman with a unique spirit. He recalled how her work schedule intensified after the pandemic, making her feel exhausted and overwhelmed.
Just weeks before her death, she had expressed her fatigue and was searching for information on burnout. The inquest revealed she believed she had Borderline Personality Disorder but had not been diagnosed with any mental health condition at the time.
Her last performance with Crazy P was at the Lost Village festival. James remembered their final moments together fondly, discussing future plans and enjoying each other’s company.
On the day she died, Danielle had a conversation with a therapist and shared a meal with James, expressing her tiredness. They had plans to celebrate their anniversary together.
When James returned home that day, he found the door open and Danielle’s belongings untouched, which raised alarm bells for him.
A close friend described Danielle as a loving and loyal person with a great sense of humor. She was grateful for her career and the opportunities it provided.
The coroner noted that Danielle’s perimenopausal symptoms significantly impacted her mental health. He concluded that her death was a result of suicide, emphasizing the unexpected nature of her actions.
In their statement, Danielle’s family expressed their shock and sorrow, highlighting her caring nature and desire to help others. They aimed to raise awareness about the mental health effects of perimenopause, hoping to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Crazy P, formed in 1995, gained a loyal following thanks to Danielle’s captivating performances. She had a passion for music that began in Manchester’s vibrant nightlife.
