Cornwall: A couple is really upset after getting a £100 parking fine, even though they paid for their ticket. Giles Thomas and his wife, Sally, are blaming the parking company for the mess.
They were visiting family in Cornwall over New Year’s when Giles parked at Harlyn Bay. He paid £2 for a two-hour ticket and went for a walk with their dogs. But when they got a parking charge notice in the mail, they were shocked.
The notice demanded £100, or £60 if paid quickly. Luckily, they kept the ticket as proof. But when they checked their bank, the £2 payment hadn’t gone through. They called Lloyds Bank and found out that the parking company hadn’t even requested the payment until days later.
Sally has appealed the fine, but they’re both furious. They think it’s ridiculous that they’re being penalized for the parking company’s mistake. Giles said it’s not just about the money; it’s about fairness for others who might not have kept their tickets.
“I was absolutely furious when I got the fine,” he said. “It’s their fault for not taking the money.” Sally added that many people are upset about this situation, especially those who might not have proof of payment.
They reached out to Alliance Parking for a comment, but the company just told them to wait for the appeal outcome. It’s a frustrating situation, and they’re not alone. Last year, another visitor faced a similar issue after overstaying by just 14 minutes.
