County Durham: The County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Services (CDDFRS) are on the lookout for on-call firefighters. These roles are super important, making up over half of the operational team. The cool part? These firefighters usually have regular jobs and step in during emergencies.

Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before. They’ll provide all the training you need to get started.

Kieran Hughes, a watch manager and RDS support officer, shared that being a firefighter is unique. You deal with everything from fires to car accidents and even animal rescues. It’s a tough job, but incredibly fulfilling.

He also mentioned that on-call firefighters come from diverse backgrounds, bringing valuable skills to the team.

To qualify, you need to commit to at least 40 hours a week and attend weekly drills at your local fire station. Plus, it’s a paid position, but you must live or work within five minutes of a fire station and be at least 17 years old.

There’s a big demand for firefighters in areas like Stanhope, Middleton-In-Teesdale, Barnard Castle, High Handenhold, Crook, Sedgefield, and Durham.

If you’re interested, applications are open now, and you can apply right away!
