Rogers County: So, the county commissioners had a meeting on Monday, and they decided to push a bunch of items to future meetings. One big topic was a plan to set up a benefit program for county employees who do a great job. But since one commissioner was missing, they thought it best to wait until January to discuss it further.
The county’s attorney mentioned that state law lets them create this program, and he even drafted a resolution for it. He explained that each department could decide how to recognize their employees, which sounds pretty cool, right?
One of the commissioners liked the idea but wanted to make sure they don’t go overboard with spending since it’s taxpayer money. They talked about setting some limits, but the attorney said they could probably do that if they wanted.
They also decided not to accept a $50,000 quote for fixing a microwave link between Chelsea and Rogers State University. The fire chief suggested they should make a decision soon since another key person wasn’t at the meeting.
Oh, and they turned down the only bid they got for a shipping container for the sheriff’s office firing range. The bid was from a Florida company, and the commissioners thought it was too pricey. They’d rather find something local.
Most of the stuff they did approve was for purchases or contracts. They agreed to a $225,000 deal with a company to manage some pesky weeds along the roads. One commissioner said it would save them money in the long run.
They also made their usual $100,000 contribution to the Rodeo Arena, which is managed by a cooperative. One commissioner praised the improvements made there.
Lastly, they decided to use the remaining American Rescue Plan funds to cover some operational costs. The attorney reminded them that they need to use those funds by the end of the year, and it sounds like they’ve been pretty smart with their spending.
