Birmingham: There’s a growing call to shut down a slip road in Billesley. This spot off Yardley Wood Road has turned into a dumping ground for rubbish, including an old caravan. It’s become a real eyesore!
Last week, the area was cleaned up, but councillors Phil Davis and Katherine Iroh are now asking for feedback on possibly closing the road. They assure that homes would still be reachable if they go ahead with this plan.
Billesley Labour shared on Facebook about the recent fly-tipping issues, mentioning the abandoned caravan and all the junk left behind. They’re really concerned about the littering that’s been happening for years.
Prof Carl Chinn brought this up after noticing heaps of rubbish dumped about a month ago. Thankfully, the mess was cleared up by the crews on January 6 after complaints poured in.
Councillor Majid Mahmood, who looks after the environment and transport, didn’t hold back. He called those who dump waste “environmental criminals” and stressed that there are plenty of proper ways to dispose of rubbish. He’s serious about taking action against offenders.
He also encouraged residents to report any fly-tipping or street issues through their Brum Account, which helps the council tackle these problems more effectively.
