Councillor apologises to Abbey House Museum staff

Leeds: So, there’s been a bit of a stir in Leeds lately. A senior councillor, Dan Cohen, had to say sorry to the staff at Abbey House Museum. They found out about possible job losses through social media, which is just not cool.

The council is in a tight spot financially and is looking at closing the museum to save around £160,000 a year. During a council meeting, Cohen asked why the staff had to hear the news on Facebook instead of through an official channel.

Salma Arif, who’s in charge of culture, was pretty disappointed about the whole situation. She said she felt really sorry for those staff members who got the news late. It’s just not fair for them to be in that position.

Arif also mentioned that this decision wasn’t made lightly and reassured everyone that nothing is set in stone yet. The council is also considering other tough measures like job cuts, raising council tax, and closing some buildings to balance the budget.
