Nailsea: There’s a buzz in town about a new housing project. The Vistry Group wants to build 150 homes on the outskirts, and the council might give it the thumbs up this week.

They submitted their plans last year, and now the planning officers are saying it looks good for approval. The site is about 10 acres, just north of Hanham Way. Vistry promises these homes will be “gas-free,” and they plan to keep over half the area as green space.

But not everyone is on board. A bunch of folks—139 to be exact—have raised concerns on the council’s planning portal. Only three people have shown support. One resident is particularly worried about the access road, saying it’s in a bad spot and could ruin the peaceful vibe of the area.

The proposed access would come from just one road, extending Hanham Way through to the new development. Some locals are anxious about the traffic and noise that could come with it.

Despite the worries, the planning officers think the benefits outweigh the concerns. They argue that the development is crucial for housing needs, especially since the council is struggling to meet its housing supply targets. Plus, it would create jobs during construction.

They also mentioned that the design could fit nicely with the town’s edge and minimize any negative impact on the nearby moors.

More details about how dense the development will be and its effects on the moors will be discussed later. The planning committee is set to meet on January 15 to make a final decision. They’ll also be looking at another big project for a medical tech company nearby.
