Stoke-on-Trent: So, the council is taking a good look at how they handled that cold snap we just had. You know, the one that turned our roads into ice rinks? They want to figure out how to do better next time.

People in places like Weston Coyney were pretty upset about empty grit bins and missed rubbish collections. Now, the council members are on it, planning to review what went down and see if they can make any improvements.

Jane Ashworth, the council leader, gave a shout-out to the staff for their hard work during the freeze. She’s also asking them for their thoughts on how to improve things. It’s nice to see them being open to suggestions.

She mentioned that this was the first big cold snap for their new administration, so they want to sit down and calmly assess what worked and what didn’t. They’ve seen the videos of binmen struggling on icy roads, and they know there’s room for improvement.

Jane also pointed out that they filled around 700 grit bins at least once, which is no small feat. She’s grateful for the staff who worked overtime and faced tough conditions. Overall, she thinks they did okay compared to other places.

Looking ahead, the weather in Stoke-on-Trent should stay above freezing for the next week. The council has assured residents that any missed bin collections during the cold snap will be sorted out as soon as they can.
