Coventry: The city council is looking into a fly-tipping case. Rubbish was found dumped in Longford on February 3.
Items like dirty kids’ shoes, empty paint cans, and a car seat were left on Burbages Lane. Some letters with the fly-tipper’s address were also found among the trash.
Resident Alan Court called the mess infuriating. He criticized those who don’t dispose of their waste properly, labeling them as lazy.
To combat fly-tipping, Coventry City Council started a monthly ‘Wall of Shame.’ They share CCTV footage of suspected offenders on YouTube. The city has seen nearly 6,000 incidents.
Those caught can face fines up to £1,000. This penalty was introduced last October, with officials warning that illegal dumping won’t be tolerated.
In a statement, the council said they look for evidence when cleaning up fly-tipped waste. They are aware of the recent incident and are investigating.
Residents are encouraged to report fly-tipping issues. They can do this anonymously through the council’s website or by calling a dedicated number.
Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, the Deputy Leader, emphasized that offenders will be caught. He urged anyone who sees fly-tipping to report it, and mentioned that officers patrol hotspots.
The council is committed to taking action against fly-tipping and improving neighborhoods.
