Market Harborough: The council has revamped some old flats. They were considered “at the end of their natural life.” The project cost around £200,000.
Four properties in Plowmans Yard off Coventry Road got new kitchens and bathrooms. The one and two-bedroom flats were closed in 2022 because they needed repairs.
Along with new kitchens and bathrooms, the flats received electrical rewiring and fresh paint. The communal areas now have a secure entry system and CCTV for safety.
The council also repaired the roof and improved heating and insulation. Now, these properties are ready for people needing temporary housing.
Cllr Jim Knight, the council’s lead for wellbeing, expressed happiness about the completed work. He emphasized the goal of providing quality temporary accommodation in the area.
This renovation follows the council’s recent plan to buy more properties to help with homelessness. They already own six houses and lease four others.
The council is open to buying more homes to address homelessness. They are exploring other locations in the Harborough district for future opportunities.
