Blackburn: The council just got a nice boost of over £20,000 to plant trees in some of the city’s more neglected spots. They’re planning to put these trees in three key areas: Audley Children’s Centre, Audley Community Centre, and Queens Park.

So, here’s the scoop. The charity Trees for Cities reached out to the council with some funding they had available. They asked the council to whip up a proposal, and it looks like it paid off!

The plan includes planting ten big trees at Queens Park, twenty at the Children’s Centre, and a hundred smaller ones. Plus, they’ll get some help with maintenance costs for the next three years. Sounds like a win-win, right?

This whole scheme is part of the council’s bigger goals, like their Tree and Woodland Strategy and tackling climate change. They’ve got to keep at least 85% of the trees alive, though, which is a pretty big deal.

They’re aiming to get these trees in the ground during the 2024/25 planting season, and they’re hoping the local community will pitch in. But, of course, there are some risks involved, like costs going up or people not being interested.

And if the trees don’t survive as expected, the council might have to replace them, which could cost a bit. But hey, the funding they received should cover most of the expenses, so fingers crossed!
