Kensington: The Kensington and Chelsea council has made history! Their children’s services just snagged a third consecutive outstanding rating from Ofsted. That’s a big deal!
This latest recognition came after an inspection in November 2024. Ofsted found that the services provided to young people in this west London borough are top-notch, making a real difference in their lives.
It’s not the first time, either. They previously earned outstanding ratings in 2015 and 2019. So, they’ve really set the bar high!
Elizabeth Campbell, the council leader, expressed pride in this achievement. She mentioned that it’s a national first and sets a new standard for their work.
She also highlighted the challenges young people face today, especially in London, where crime can be a serious issue. But the council’s teams are working hard to give these kids the best start possible.
The report praised their proactive approach to protecting children at risk of exploitation. Inspectors noted that their interventions significantly reduce risks for most kids.
Social workers in the area were described as dedicated advocates for the children they support. They provide excellent help for care leavers too.
Bijal Shah, a social worker, shared how rewarding it is to receive messages of thanks from young people. It really shows the impact they’re making.
Inspectors also found that the council has invested wisely in services and has a solid strategy to help children early on.
Sarah Newman, the director of children’s services, mentioned that since the pandemic, the demand for support has grown. But their teams have adapted without compromising on quality.
They’re also collaborating with schools and community services to enhance their efforts. It’s all about teamwork!
Looking ahead, Kensington and Chelsea council plans to boost their services with an additional £4.7 million in funding over the next five years. That’s a significant investment!
Catherine Faulks, the lead member for family and children’s services, expressed her gratitude to the dedicated staff. This recognition is a huge boost for everyone involved.
It’s great to see such commitment to the well-being of children in the borough!
