Macclesfield: A lovely little pub in Cheshire, The Castle, has made quite the comeback. Just three years ago, it was almost falling apart. Now, it’s been named the best pub in the county!
When Paul Harrison and Tim Broster took over, the place was in rough shape. After a lot of hard work, they reopened it in September 2021. Now, it’s one of the coziest spots around, with a tiny taproom that fits just eight people.
The Castle has been recognized by The Telegraph as the top pub in Cheshire, which is a big deal. It’s a grade II listed building that went through an amazing makeover and even won a CAMRA Historic England Conservation Award.
This pub is a rare gem, showcasing a classic town pub vibe that’s hard to find these days. It’s got this charming hatch bar that looks like an old-fashioned shop window, adding to its character.
The owners proudly say The Castle is all about celebrating the small things. Rebecca Prunty, one of the directors, shared how tough it’s been with rising costs and customers being more careful with their spending. But they’re committed to keeping the place warm and welcoming for everyone.
She expressed her pride in her team and gratitude for the support from their customers. Plus, she’s thankful for all the fantastic local breweries and producers they work with. Every day, she feels lucky to be part of such a beautiful building in the best town around.
