Pune: The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested Santosh Gawli, the main suspect in the Sanpada firing incident from December 3. Gawli, a former garbage contractor, allegedly plotted to kill his successor, Rajaram Thoke, with the help of a sharpshooter.
While they haven’t caught the sharpshooter yet, they believe he is Imran Qureshi, a known criminal linked to the DK Rao gang. Qureshi has a long history of violent crimes across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
Gawli was hard to track down. He used different SIM cards and WhatsApp calls to stay off the radar. He even had a trick of making a call and hanging up after one ring to signal money arrangements.
Police had a tough time pinning him down, but they finally caught up with him in Pune after tracking his movements. He was brought back to Mumbai for questioning, and the police are eager to get more details from him.
