Skegness: An elderly lady named Joan got caught up in a scam and lost £3,000. Scammers pretended to be from her bank, claiming there was a problem with her account. They convinced her to send cash to an address in London.

Joan, who’s in her late 80s, believed them and sent the money via special delivery. But just two days later, she had a gut feeling something was off and went to her local Barclays bank.

At the bank, an advisor quickly realized she’d been scammed and reported it to the police. Student officer PC Nicholson visited Joan and found she had taken notes on what the scammers told her, which was super helpful.

She had the address where she sent the money and even a tracking number. This tracking number showed the package was still somewhere in London, which was a good sign.

On her way back, PC Nicholson chatted with a postman who helped her connect with the Central Operations Manager at the Skegness Post Office. After some calls, they managed to track down the package in London.

It took a bit of paperwork due to mail interception laws, but with help from the Economic Crime Unit, everything got sorted out. The package was finally sent back to Skegness.

Joan was over the moon to get her money back and even got to ride in a police car for the first time! PC Nicholson took her to the bank to deposit her cash again.

The police shared that getting Joan’s money back was a real team effort. They thanked everyone involved, including Barclays Bank and Royal Mail, for helping turn a tough situation into a happy ending for Joan.
