Port Augusta: A police officer is in the hospital after a wild incident. She was reportedly attacked with a sword while responding to a domestic disturbance.

This all went down on High St, just before 11 am on Saturday. When the officers arrived, a man confronted them and struck the female officer in the arm with the sword. Can you believe that?

They had to use capsicum spray to subdue him, and more police were called in for backup. The injured officer was first taken by ambulance and then airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

A 30-year-old man from Port Augusta has been arrested and is facing several charges, including assaulting an emergency worker. It’s a serious situation.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens expressed how shocking this attack was. He mentioned that while policing can be dangerous, incidents like this really highlight the risks officers face daily.

Thankfully, the officer’s injuries aren’t life-threatening, and they’re making sure she and her family get all the support they need.

Stevens also pointed out that everyone in the police force and the community will be keeping a close eye on how this case unfolds in court. The law is pretty strict on this; assaulting an emergency services worker can lead to a hefty prison sentence of up to 15 years.

So, all eyes will be on the outcome if the man is found guilty. It’s a tough job, and incidents like this remind us of the dangers police officers face every day.
