York: Tickets for the Plague of Angels concert went on sale February 3. The event, titled “Organic Metal: Two Worlds Collide,” is set for April 25 inside the historic York Minster.

Some members of the Minster’s congregation are worried about the band’s performance. They raised concerns after learning two band members played with the extreme-metal group Cradle of Filth.

Despite the backlash, a York Minster spokesperson said most tickets sold out within an hour. The concert is generating excitement, even amid the controversy.

Parishioners called the concert an “outright insult” to their faith. They expressed their concerns to the Guardian, highlighting the band’s past connections.

The Very Reverend Dominic Barrington, the Dean of York, acknowledged the concerns. He stated that the concert’s content would be suitable for a cathedral setting.

Mark Mynett, the band’s guitarist, emphasized that Plague of Angels is distinct from Cradle of Filth. He said the two members regret their past involvement.

York Minster costs £33,000 a day to run. The cathedral is exploring new ways to generate funds, including hosting concerts.

The Minster has a thorough approval process for events. They are working closely with the event organizers to ensure it aligns with their values.

The concert will feature David Pipe performing heavy metal classics on the organ. Plague of Angels will close the night with a one-hour set.

Band ‘Deeply Honoured’ to Perform at Minster

Mynett expressed the band’s honor in performing at York Minster. He assured that they are committed to delivering an appropriate concert.

He noted that metal music can explore deep themes, including struggle and redemption. The band hopes their performance will celebrate artistic expression.

The Dean of York mentioned that metal music is diverse and includes Christian bands. He emphasized that music is central to their mission and ministry.

He added that the cathedral aims to create a sacred space for everyone. They hope to share God’s glory through their music offerings.
