Callow End: There’s a bit of a stir in the village over plans for three new homes. Developer Phillip Ralph wants to build them on land off Bush Lane.
He’s asking for full planning permission, but this isn’t the first time the council has looked at this site. Back in December 2022, they turned down a request for four homes. However, a government inspector later approved it in October 2023.
Then, in December 2023, the council did give the green light for two homes. The latest proposal includes a new access road for two of the houses, while the third would use an existing road.
A planning statement mentions that the layout will allow for good visibility over the open space and parking areas. They also plan to keep hedgerows around the site to blend in with the area’s character.
Agents Fisher German believe that the idea of building three homes has already been confirmed as a good fit for the site. They argue that it’s a sustainable development.
But not everyone is on board. Neighbour Christine Wilson is worried about the safety of kids, pedestrians, and horse riders with more cars on Bush Lane. Sally Somersby echoed her concerns, urging planners to consider past objections.
Many villagers have voiced their disapproval of previous applications. They feel that adding new houses would create a cul-de-sac that doesn’t suit the rural vibe. The lane is popular for walks and horse riding, and more traffic could be risky for everyone.
