Monmouthshire: Councillors Richard John and Lisa Dymock are sounding the alarm about the care services for elderly folks in the area. They want to make sure that the care provided stays top-notch.
Lougher Home Care has been the go-to for nearly 15 years, but now the council is looking to change things up by re-tendering the contract.
This company, based in Magor, employs around 60 locals and dishes out about 1,000 hours of care each week. That’s a lot of support for the community!
Richard John expressed his worries, saying he fears the council might be more focused on saving money than ensuring quality care for vulnerable people.
He pointed out that the council seems to be favoring cheaper, less personal services from big national companies over local businesses that really care.
Lisa Dymock backed him up, sharing how inspiring it is to see Lougher’s carers go above and beyond for the residents. She believes many older folks in southern Monmouthshire rely on these dedicated carers to live independently.
She also cautioned that if a national company takes over, the level of care might drop, leaving families and residents in a tough spot.
