Northumberland: A tragic accident has taken the life of Leslie Charles Stewart, a beloved comedian known as Eric Scarboro. His son, Shaun, shared heartfelt memories of his dad, describing him as a loving father and community man.

Les was not just a comedian; he was a welder, bus driver, and even a teacher. He opened a comedy club in Gateshead and was well-loved in the North East. After moving to Edinburgh in 2021 with his partner, Sylvia, he still made time for his sons and grandchildren, often driving long distances to visit them.

On the day of the accident, Les had spent time with Shaun, looking for a venue to launch a poetry book. Sadly, on his way home, he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed on the A1. The inquest revealed that he drifted into oncoming traffic, leading to a head-on collision that also claimed the life of a young woman, Josie Kate Crocker.

Shaun expressed his belief that there might have been more to the accident, suggesting a possible medical episode. He hopes that this tragedy will remind everyone to prioritize safety on the road and avoid driving when tired or unwell.

Les’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, who remember him not just for his comedy but for his kindness and dedication to helping others.
