Las Vegas: So, it looks like Deion Sanders might be eyeing the Raiders’ head coaching gig. The buzz is that he’s got some serious interest in the job.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Raiders are on the hunt for a new head coach after letting go of Antonio Pierce. They also parted ways with general manager Tom Telesco after a rough 4-13 season.
Apparently, someone close to Sanders mentioned that he’s really keen on the position. It’s interesting because he hasn’t been on anyone’s radar for NFL jobs until now.
Sanders just wrapped up his second season at Colorado, where the Buffaloes made it to the Alamo Bowl. They had a tough first year but bounced back to tie for first in the Big 12 this past season, and his son, Travis Hunter, snagged the Heisman Trophy.
He’s been doing a great job recruiting at Colorado, especially for the quarterback spot. His son, Shedeur, is likely heading to the NFL Draft, and they’ve also brought in some promising talent.
Deion recently mentioned on “Good Morning America” that he’d consider the NFL if it meant coaching his sons. The Raiders hold the No. 6 pick in the draft, and there’s chatter about them possibly trading up to grab Shedeur.
In a recent mock draft, the Raiders were projected to trade with the Browns to snag Shedeur after the Titans picked another QB. It makes sense since the Raiders are in dire need of a franchise quarterback.
But the Browns are in a tight spot too, especially after Deshaun Watson’s injury news. His contract is already a huge burden, and now they might be looking to draft their future QB.
As for Sanders, it’s still up in the air whether he’ll even interview with the Raiders. Just days ago, there were reports about Tom Brady chatting with Bill Belichick regarding the Raiders’ opening.
Right now, it seems likely that both Sanders and Belichick might stick to college football in 2025, but who knows what could happen?
