London has seen a remarkable rise in coffee consumption. A recent study by Simba, a sleep-tech company, shows that people in the city drink an average of 767 cups of coffee each year. That’s a lot of coffee!
At first glance, this number might seem overwhelming. However, most people only drink about 2.1 cups a day. Only a small percentage, about 17%, drink four cups daily, and just 5% drink six cups. So, for many, the average is quite manageable.
Even if your coffee intake is within safe limits, it’s still good to keep an eye on how much you drink. The report highlights that 767 cups equal around 184,080 liters of coffee, enough to fill a swimming pool!
Dr. Suzanne Wylie, a general practitioner, says that drinking three to four cups a day is generally safe. This amount provides a caffeine level that most adults can handle well. However, everyone reacts differently to caffeine, so some may prefer less.
Dr. Wylie suggests the best time to enjoy coffee is in the morning. This helps wake you up and keeps you alert. Drinking coffee too late in the day can disrupt your sleep, as caffeine can stay in your system for several hours.
While London is a coffee-loving city, it’s not the top place for coffee in the UK. According to a study, Salford is ranked as the best city for coffee lovers, while Oxford is at the bottom of the list.
For those who may experience jitters or anxiety from too much coffee, there are alternatives. Switching to tea, which has less caffeine, can be a healthier choice. Matcha is also popular for its calming effects while still providing energy.
If you’re thinking about cutting back on coffee, there are many tasty options to explore.
