Co Armagh: Killylea Primary School is tackling screen time for kids. They want students to enjoy family time without devices.

The school spent nearly £1,000 on games. Each week, families can choose a game to play together. This helps improve communication skills.

Principal Mrs. Pamela Lowry shared that the initiative runs until Easter. She hopes kids will get outside more as the weather improves.

Mrs. Lowry noted that technology is affecting younger kids. Many children in P1 are already gaming. This raises concerns about inactivity and mental health.

The school aims to provide a digital detox. They want families to spend quality time together, away from screens.

So far, the initiative is a success. Kids are excitedly discussing the games they’ve played. Soon, prefects will help manage the game collection.

Mrs. Lowry emphasized the need for balance with technology. While it has benefits, too much screen time can be harmful.

She also mentioned that some staff have started reading more. They now have a staff library to encourage this habit.

Overall, the school is focused on promoting healthy habits. They want to ensure kids are active and engaged, both in and out of the classroom.
