Washington: Senior Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn recently shared his hopes for newly reelected House Speaker Mike Johnson. He wants Johnson to work with Democrats on key issues this term.
Johnson managed to keep his position after a smooth first ballot, thanks to support from President-elect Donald Trump. Only one Republican broke ranks during the vote.
Clyburn pointed out that Johnson should use the same negotiation skills he showed to get elected. He suggested that Johnson should keep the lines of communication open with both parties.
He emphasized the importance of patience and collaboration, urging Johnson to sit down with Democratic leaders like Hakeem Jeffries to find common ground.
Johnson has big plans, aiming to push through a major reconciliation package that includes Trump’s priorities like border security and tax reform by the end of April.
Clyburn, a strong supporter of President Biden, also mentioned that the upcoming election certification will feel very different from four years ago.
He expressed hope that Americans will watch the process and feel renewed faith in their country.
