Cleasby: Residents in this village near Darlington are really worried about flooding. They’ve been dealing with water pooling on the roads, making it tough for cars to get through.

This has been a problem for over a year now, and folks are anxious that another heavy rain could leave them underwater again. It’s affecting both the locals and businesses.

People living there say that just a few inches of water can cover the roads, so they’re constantly checking the water levels whenever it rains. It’s a hassle for everyone.

Even though the council claims they’ve cleaned up the drains and gullies, many residents aren’t convinced. They say they still see issues and worry about future flooding.

Cllr Keane Duncan from North Yorkshire Council mentioned that they’ve done some cleaning and there haven’t been any flooding incidents since. But locals are still on edge.

David Carter, who helps run the village hall, shared that the flooding has made it hard to plan events. He’s worried about the community’s future and the costs they’ve incurred from canceled activities.

He’s not alone in his concerns. The Stapleton and Cleasby Parish Council has been meeting regularly to talk about these flooding issues, but they feel like the real decisions are up to North Yorkshire Council.

Councillor Karen Webster has also voiced her worries. She pointed out that the flooding is a serious problem, especially since the only parking is on the road, which can get submerged.

She believes the drains are part of the issue, but also mentioned that increased traffic from a nearby solar farm might be making things worse. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
