Turton: A former church in the village is looking at a new life as a gym and yoga studio. The Edgworth Methodist Church, built back in 1862, is up for a makeover.
Mrs. S Roberts has put in a request to the local council to change the Grade II-listed building into a personal training gym, yoga studio, and physiotherapy clinic. The church has been empty for a while, but it’s still in decent shape.
It used to be a Methodist Church, but with no congregation left, they’re thinking about how to keep this historic spot alive. The idea is to bring in some investment to prevent it from falling apart.
With lots of homes around Edgworth, the gym could attract plenty of clients. Mrs. Roberts has already been running personal training sessions nearby, so she knows the area well.
The gym will focus on small groups, with a max of 15 people at a time. The yoga studio will hold up to 25, and many folks are expected to walk there from nearby homes.
Physiotherapy will be a smaller part of the operation, and they plan to keep hours from 6 am to 8 pm on weekdays, and 8 am to 4 pm on weekends.
The entrance will be where the old vestry was, complete with a little refreshment counter for drinks and snacks. The main area, which used to be for worship, will now be the training space.
They’ll even create an office in the Nave and adjust the first floor for yoga classes. Sounds like a great way to breathe new life into a cherished building!
