Cardston: You know how they say in Alberta, “if you don’t like the weather, just wait a few minutes”? Well, it’s true! The weather here can change on a dime.
Alberta is famous for its wild temperature swings, and a lot of that is thanks to those Chinook winds. They really know how to shake things up!
So, on Wednesday, it was chilly in most places, but closer to the foothills, things were a bit warmer. It was a classic Alberta day, with temperatures jumping around like crazy.
Cardston really took the cake this time. It started the morning at a frosty -13°C. But then, as the winds shifted to the southwest, the temperature shot up to a comfy 9°C by 11 am! Can you believe that? But just as quickly, the winds turned back, and it dropped right back down to -13°C.
That’s a wild 22-degree swing in just a few hours! Meanwhile, Calgary was a bit slower to warm up, starting at -17°C and only getting to -14°C.
These Chinook winds are pretty famous, especially along the Rockies. They really pack a punch, especially in winter when moist air from the Pacific hits the mountains, causing all that crazy weather.
So, if you’re in Alberta, just remember: the weather can change faster than you can say “Chinook!”
