Chinese New Year Celebrations Begin in Southampton with Festive Events

Southampton: The Chinese Association of Southampton organized a lively celebration in Guildhall Square. People gathered to welcome the Year of the Snake with exciting performances.
The festivities kicked off with a stunning dragon parade. Teams of eight maneuvered three large dragons, all to the rhythm of a beating drum.
Next, the Chinese Association members performed a traditional lion dance. The colorful lion costumes amazed onlookers, bringing joy to both kids and adults.
Micheal Ng, chair of the Chinese Association, shared the importance of this celebration. He noted that Chinese New Year is significant not just in China, but also in places like Malaysia, South Korea, and the UK.
He emphasized the event’s role in connecting the community and teaching younger generations about their culture. The dragon and lion dances, along with martial arts and Beijing Opera, are highlights of the celebration.
Ericsson Leung, a member of the association, encouraged everyone to experience Chinese New Year. He stressed its importance to the Chinese community and invited all to join in the festivities.
After the performances, attendees enjoyed martial arts, Tai Chi displays, and traditional Chinese music, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.
