Los Angeles: A heartbreaking incident unfolded as a child star lost his life in the wildfires. Rory Callum Sykes, just 32, was trapped in a cottage near Malibu when the flames engulfed it.
His mother, Shelley, shared her grief with 10 News, explaining how she couldn’t save him. She said, “I couldn’t put out the cinders on his roof with a hose because the water was switched off.” When firefighters returned, the cottage was already gone.
In a desperate attempt to get help, Shelley drove a quarter of a mile after being unable to reach 911. Tragically, she later learned that Rory had died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Rory was known for hosting the British RTV show Kiddy Kapers back in 1998. He faced many challenges in life, being blind from birth and diagnosed with cerebral palsy. His mother often spoke about how he overcame so much, including therapies to regain his sight and learn to walk.
After his passing, Shelley took to Twitter/X to express her sorrow. She wrote, “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son @Rorysykes to the Malibu fires yesterday. I’m totally heartbroken.” She shared how much he would be missed by family, friends, and fans.
Fans quickly rallied around Shelley, sending their condolences and support. One user wrote, “RIP @rorysykes. May God give you and family the strength to bear the great loss.” Another added, “I’m so sorry to read this news. What a traumatic experience for both of you.”
Interestingly, Rory’s death isn’t included in the official death toll from the LA fires, which has already claimed at least 11 lives. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, affecting both civilians and celebrities.
Paris Hilton shared her own heartbreak as she watched her home burn on live TV. Meanwhile, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were seen helping those who lost their homes, providing welfare parcels to those affected.
