Chester: So, guess what? North Light, that trendy bar and restaurant in Chester Northgate, has officially closed down. It’s a bit of a shocker since it was just getting started.
Opened in 2023, North Light was one of the highlights of the new Northgate development. It had a prime spot in the Coachworks Arcade, and everyone was buzzing about it.
But after less than two years, The Botanist, which owned North Light, decided to shut it down. They’ve also closed other locations in places like Alderley Edge and Sheffield.
This closure is part of a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) that was approved by creditors to help clear some debts. It’s a tough situation for them.
According to a statement, they launched the CVA in October 2024, and over 95% of creditors agreed to it. They mentioned that three more unprofitable sites will close in January.
They’ve been making some changes over the last year, like rebranding some of their other spots to The Botanist. They’re still opening new locations, though, with plans for a new Botanist in Bournemouth next May.
It’s interesting to think back to when Alderley Edge was home to the very first Botanist back in 2012. Since then, they’ve expanded all over the UK and now have 28 locations.
And just to add to the mix, they’re converting their Furnace bar in Sheffield into a Botanist next month after closing the original one. It’s a lot of changes happening!
