Chepstow: A community initiative is turning Blue Monday into something bright and cheerful. Lads Lunch, based at The Bridge Church in Bulwark, is celebrating Warm Welcome Week from January 20 to 26.
This week is all about raising awareness for Warm Welcome Spaces, like Lads Lunch, where folks can find warmth and connection right in their neighborhood.
For over two years, this initiative has been a lifeline for people in Chepstow, Bulwark, and Thornwell. It helps those who are struggling to stay warm and those who feel lonely or isolated.
Lads Lunch is a cozy, safe, and free space open every Thursday from 12pm to 2pm. It offers a warm welcome, friendly chats, and a free meal to men in the community.
To spread the joy, they’re encouraging everyone to wear warm colors and get creative with pinks, oranges, reds, and purples to chase away the blues and highlight the importance of Warm Welcome Spaces.
David Barclay, the campaign director, mentioned that the demand for these spaces will be high this January. They’re not just helping people with bills but also connecting communities and providing a sense of belonging.
He added that the dark winter days can be really tough, and they don’t want anyone to feel cold or alone this winter.
Everyone is invited to join in during Warm Welcome Week to help raise awareness. The goal is to ensure more people can find a warm and welcoming place, and to encourage more community spaces to open their doors.
David encourages everyone to show their support by wearing bright, warm colors like pinks, oranges, purples, and reds. These colors represent the joy, positivity, and friendship found in every Warm Welcome Space.
