London: Chelsea faced off against Charlton at Kingsmeadow Stadium, and it was a match that went pretty much as expected. Chelsea, the reigning champions, took control early on, but Charlton put up a solid fight.
Despite the 4-0 score, Charlton can walk away with their heads held high. They showed resilience and had a few moments where they looked dangerous. Chelsea, on the other hand, had to work hard to break through Charlton’s defense.
The game started a bit slow for Chelsea, which was just what Charlton needed. They even had a couple of chances, but Chelsea’s keeper, Hannah Hampton, was on point. It wasn’t until the 40th minute that Chelsea finally found the net with a clever header from Mayra Ramirez.
Just before halftime, Chelsea was awarded a penalty, and Guro Reiten stepped up to double the lead. After the break, Chelsea made some substitutions, and it didn’t take long for Aggie Beever-Jones to score the third goal.
As the game went on, Chelsea kept pushing, and Niamh Charles sealed the deal with a fantastic strike from outside the box. Charlton’s keeper, Jessica Gray, made some incredible saves throughout the match, keeping the score from being even worse.
In the final moments, there was a bit of concern when Wieke Kaptein went down and had to be stretchered off. Overall, it was a solid performance from Chelsea, and they can now look forward to the next round of the FA Cup.
