Chelmsford: A devoted dad is sharing his surrogacy journey. Kevin Pittuck-Bennett and his husband welcomed their daughter in November 2024. He found there wasn’t enough information about the surrogacy process. So, he decided to document everything.

Their journey started on January 1, 2021. Kevin, 46, began researching their options. He has made videos explaining surrogacy to help others and for his daughter to see later.

Kevin said it was a steep learning curve. He appreciates the community of friends they have made along the way. He wants to help others avoid the confusion he faced.

Surrogacy laws in the UK were introduced in 1985. Commercial surrogacy is illegal, but paying expenses to the surrogate is allowed. The surrogate is the legal mother at birth, and a parental order is needed to transfer legal parentage.

It took Kevin and his husband four years to bring their daughter into the world. He shares their journey on YouTube, covering topics like terminology, finding a surrogate, and costs.

In the beginning, Kevin felt frustrated by the lack of clear information. Most resources focus on the American market, which has different rules. He was surprised to learn that many surrogacy cases involve straight couples with fertility issues.

Kevin and his husband stay in touch with their surrogate. They feel grateful for her role in their lives. He recalls a funny moment when they were in the hospital, and staff were confused about their family setup.

He believes clearer resources would help everyone involved in surrogacy. Kevin describes his daughter as “good as gold” but admits he sometimes worries about their unique situation.
