Theale: A main road is closed for emergency repairs, and it’s causing quite a stir. Thames Water has been on the scene since Tuesday, January 14, fixing issues on The Green.

They found a problem while working on a new sewer connection. Groundwater had washed away some subsoil, creating a void under the road. Not good!

The repairs are expected to wrap up by January 20, but that’s not soon enough for many locals. School runs are getting messed up, and buses are having to take detours.

For instance, the Jet Black 1 bus service can’t stop at several key locations, including Theale Green School. Instead, it’s rerouting to a different bus stop until the work is done.

And just when you think it might be over, there’s more! Newburytoday reports that right after these repairs, gas works are set to start in Theale High Street. Talk about a double whammy!

Thames Water is doing its best to manage the situation. They’re overpumping to keep the sewer flows in check and assure residents that their drinking water is safe. Toilets can still be flushed, so that’s a relief!

If you’re feeling the impact of these repairs, Thames Water wants to hear from you. You can reach out at newsdesk@newburynews.co.uk. And if you need to travel through the area, check out the diversion route online.
