Frodsham: So, you won’t believe what just happened with MP Mike Amesbury. He was caught on CCTV throwing punches at a guy in the street. Crazy, right?
This all went down outside a taxi rank in the early hours. Amesbury, who used to be a Manchester councillor, ended up in court today and admitted to the assault.
The victim, a 45-year-old named Paul Fellows, got hit in the head and fell to the ground. But Amesbury didn’t stop there; he kept punching him at least five more times. Yikes!
The footage showed them chatting for a bit before things got heated. Fellows recognized Amesbury as the local MP and started talking about a bridge closure. Then, out of nowhere, Amesbury threw a punch.
After Fellows went down, some bystanders jumped in to help. This all happened after 2 AM on October 26 last year. After the attack, Amesbury had the nerve to say, “Don’t ever threaten me again.”
He also added some colorful language, saying, “You won’t threaten your MP again will you, you f****** soft lad.” Today, he pleaded guilty to common assault and will be sentenced next month.
After the incident went viral, he got suspended from the Labour Party but decided to stay on as an independent MP. Now, it seems he’s resigned from Labour altogether. He’s got a tough choice ahead—whether to resign as an MP, which would trigger a by-election.
After the court hearing, a Labour spokesperson said it was right for Amesbury to take responsibility for his actions. They suspended him as soon as the police got involved.
Outside the court, Amesbury told reporters that the whole thing was “highly regrettable” and expressed his sincere apologies to Fellows and his family. What a mess!
