Manchester: So, there’s been another incident in the Northern Quarter. A war memorial got hit with graffiti again, and it’s really disappointing.

This time, the graffiti was found on a memorial next to a car park on Tib Street. It’s right under some bronze plaques that honor the brave men who fought in the First and Second World Wars.

The plaques are pretty high up on a wall near the corner of Church Street and Tib Street, and the graffiti was scrawled on a mural of poppies below them.

It’s not the first time this has happened, either. Back in 2022, the council promised to look into it after similar graffiti showed up.

Local councillor Pat Karney is on it, saying they’ll check the CCTV footage to catch the people responsible for this disrespectful act.

He mentioned how shameful it is to disrespect those who fought for our freedom and assured that they’ll clean it up.

The plaques honor the men from J & N Philips and Co Ltd, a textile manufacturer that was around since 1747. Their building used to be where the car park is now.

After the company stopped trading in 1969, the tribute tablets were saved and put back up, which makes this vandalism even more upsetting.
